The Civil War may have officially ended in 1865, but the bitter seeds of chaos sown during that particular Fever Season didn’t fully germinate until Reconstruction.

soldier250Vicksburg’s Tolliver family suffered serious losses throughout the war.  Together they survived the Siege’s deprivation, bombardment and festering disease. Now, with the plantation sold and teetering on the cusp of a new decade, they believed they were free to start anew. They were wrong.   In the frigid darkness of New Years Eve, 1869, 20-year-old Jeanette Tolliver pried the bloody axe from her Uncle Geoffrey’s shaking hands, then helped drag the Union officer’s body into the shadows. One problem was irrevocably solved but a dozen more had sprung forth to replace it.

The same divine fingerprints which originally launched Geoffrey’s strange purpose now continue to lead the family as they plot to evade the heavy hand of post-war injustice.
